If you are a human who wants to go outside, but you aren’t quit sure how or where, this site is for you.

If you are a human who goes outside and you want to get better at it, take your kids with you or try something new, this site is for you.

If you are a human who is outdoor minded, who loves simplicity and wants to get back to what’s real, this site is for you.

If you are a human who is looking for the best tips and hacks for living the outdoor life, this site is for you.

Not long ago I was just like you. I’m an indoor girl living in an outdoor world. But with two small boys and a Army Ranger husband, I knew that if I didn’t learn to not just get outside, but to also love it, they would leave without me.

So I started looking for blogs and sites to help a girl like me make it happen. I smelled an opportunity to score new boots. And I had burning questions. Questions like: how does a lady-person pee outside without either completely taking off her pants or getting it everywhere? Can I wed an outdoorsy mindset with actually being an outdoors person? How do I keep all spiders away from me? Can I learn to love it outside in all it’s gritty, sleeping bag sleeping glory?

It turned out the answer to the all of the above is “yes.” And I want to share those things with you.

When I’m not getting outside or hanging out with you here, I cover military news for Military.com, where I also edit and run their military spouse and family blog SpouseBuzz.com. I’ve been blogging in some form or another since 2001 — the only time in my life I’ve ever been an early adopter.

With the help of HumansOutside.com’s resident outdoor guru, my husband, I’m still learning. And I’m hoping that you want to learn along with me. We want to get outside with you, while you get outside with us.

At HumansOutside you can expect down to earth facts, tips and information about living life outside. We’ll give you reviews and sponsored posts when appropriate, as well as news items to help you with your outdoor pursuits.

Welcome!

  1. You had me at spiders (and peeing!! I always get “stage fright” when I’m hiking!)! Looking forward to what you have to share!

  2. Good for you Amy. My wife and I are like you and the Capt. Outside a lot and love being outside. Huck is just like our youngest grandson. Good luck with this new adventure.
